Your subconscious mind is very powerful, whenever it faces a situation that requires taking an action, it quickly scans the options it has and then applies the best one it finds.

Consider this example, if you're walking down the street and suddenly someone holds a knife to you, threatening to hurt you if you don’t give him your money. Your option, at this minute, is either to run or give him all you have on you. Your subconscious mind will choose the best of them, depending on the situation, and apply it. But what if you're a kung fu master? Will your options still be limited to running away or handing over your money? Of course not, you'd have the option of fighting the man.

How can you make use of that?

You might have guessed by now that most of your unwanted behavior is only the result of lacking options; when you're afraid, it's just because the option of being courageous is not there, when you experiencing a lack of confidence, it's because the option of being confident is not there. Whatever the behavior you want to change, as you see, providing the correct options is enough to change it.

How to install new options?

Now, as for how you can add new options, the method is simple; you just need to use visualization. Your subconscious mind does not differentiate between real and imaginary experiences (see subconscious mind rules) and so when you visualize yourself acting in a certain way, your subconscious mind will think that this situation has happened in reality. Based on that, it will consider the option of acting that way the next time you face a similar situation. Try to spot the behavior that you want to change, and then visualize that new option as much as you can until it becomes your normal way of acting; eventually you'll find that your unwanted behavior has changed.
