contrary to common belief, lots of the emotions we experience are because of our choice , if you dont believe this you then i will let you try it yourself, take stress as an example, decide now that next time you face any external stressor you wont loose control and that you will try to think as rational as possible, keep reminding yourself of that so that you dont forget.

on the next situation you face somthing stressfull you will find that, at the beginning you started to get stressed a little bit, and then if you remembered your decision you are going to say "no no , i decided i wont get stressed " and then you may control yourself a bit, and finally you will end up stressed again because you don't have any other choice to do other than being stressed.

so what you can do here is provide your subconscious mind with other options and it will pick the best option it finds upon being in the same situation. that other option could be somthing like building a belief that if you became stressed you wont solve the problem and that you will only harm yourself , and thinking that controlling yourself will make your decisions much more rational and so you will end up finishing the task correctly.

also know that when you are under stress or when are experiencing an emotion you dont have access to all of your mind's resources, and so you may end up giving an emotional decision instead of a rational one.
