What’s the problem with indifference

Indifference is the state of feeling where you don’t care about taking an action to improve your life even though your life is not going well.

The problem with indifference is that even though you might be aware that doing that thing or taking that action will bring you lots of benefits still you find yourself doing nothing.

indifference is not like lack of motivation because you may lack motivation if you are not aware of the importance of the activity however if you are aware of the importance of the task but still take no actions then you are being indifferent.

what are the causes of indifference?

The causes of indifference could be :

• loss of hope: you just don’t feel that your efforts will yield any result and so you become indifferent. In such a case you believe that taking an action won't change anything
• depression: if I were asked to define depression, I would have said that it’s a severe case of loss of hope. Depression is the strongest factor that can make you indifferent. yes depression is caused by chemical imbalance in the brain but the chemical imbalance itself stems from the person's inability to deal with a certain life problem. • skepticism: That’s where religious indifference comes from, some people totally ignore the idea of doing good deeds and avoiding bad deeds even if they are religious. This happens because they are either skeptic or because they became skeptic after they have been through some kind of experience that affected their religious beliefs
• Learned helplessness: After failing to do something many times or after putting much effort without seeing a result some people develop learned helplessness. Learned helplessness is a state where the person believes that whatever effort he is going to do still there wont be any result. Learned helplessness is another major cause for indifference. what can I do to overcome indifference?

Indifference is just a symptom and its never a cause. In order to overcome indifference you need to take care of the underlying reason that caused this indifference.

If it's depression then take actions to overcome it, if it's loss of hope then take actions to build hope, if it's religious skepticism then search more and more in order to solidify your beliefs. Just fix the root cause for your indifference and then it will leave you.
