How the subconscious affects a person's behavior

The subconscious mind and behaviour

Do you know that your subconscious mind has a great impact on your behaviour?
Whenever you experience an emotion all of a sudden without understanding its source then know that your subconscious mind was behind it.

For example if you suddenly felt anxious without any apparent reason as soon as you encountered a certain person then know that this is the effect of the subconscious mind.

So if the subconscious mind affects a person's behaviour to that extent then it makes a lot of sense to understand how it works so that you can change your unwanted behaviour.

how the subconscious affects a person's behavior

Here is an example that will explain how the subconscious mind affects a person's behaviour.

When Sam was young everyone used to bully him and to make fun of him. When he grew up he started to believe that he is inferior to others. Because that belief was going to hurt his self esteem it was buried in his subconscious mind.

While Sam was not consciously aware of the belief stored in his subconscious mind still it affected his behaviour to a great extent. Sam become oversensitive to criticism, socially withdrawn and he always experienced anxiety around strangers.

The first thing you need to understand about how the subconscious mind affects a person's behavior is that even if a belief was not available to your conscious mind still it will impact your actions.

Our behavior results from our emotions and since the subconscious mind is the one that controls emotions you can conclude that the subconscious mind is the biggest factor that affects your behaviour.

Can you prevent the subconscious from affecting your behaviour?

Can a person prevent his subconscious mind from affecting his behaviour?
Yes certainly that can happen but in an indirect way.

Your behaviour and emotions both result from your beliefs and so if you managed to change your beliefs you will be able to change them both.

In the previous example, if Sam managed to get rid of the belief that he is inferior then his subconscious mind will affect his behaviour in a positive way instead of affecting it negatively.

In the Solid Self confidence program i said that the biggest mistake people make when trying to change beliefs is using affirmations or quick fixes.

The problem is that the subconscious mind can never accept a belief unless it doesn't contradict its existing belief database. If you think that you are a loser but kept repeating phrases such as i am confident your subconscious mind will never believe you and your affirmations will never have a positive effect on your behaviour. (see Why affirmations don't work)
