One of the main factors affecting your brain activity and in turn your memory is your diet. Studies show that the following foods may help improving your memory functions:

  • Fish
  • studies has shown that green tea can help in preventing damage to brain cells by free radicals and so it helps in maintaining good memory functions
  • fizzy and sugary drinks help make recalling information easier
  • Vitamin B12, found in eggs, milk and liver
  • walnuts
  • the most important factor is having a healthy balanced diet

Short term vs long term memory

Many people mistakenly think that they have poor memory just because they have poor short term memory while in fact that's a common misconception.

Short term memory can be improved by training and so if you can't recall things such as people's names or phone numbers then you only need to train your memory.

Memory exercises and memory improvement

Training your memory means that you practice some of the common memory exercises. One of the famous memory exercises is a one that presents you with lots of images for few seconds then you are asked to recall the images you saw.

Selective memory functions

One of the facts many people are unaware of about memories is that they are highly selective. This means that people only recall the incidents that they want to recall and forget about the ones they want to forget.
