One of the popular comments i always hear from people who are interested in personal development is that they tend to forget the advice they have learned few weeks after learning them.

I have heard people more than once saying that personal development has changed their lives in the beginning and then they reverted back to their original personalities.

In this article i will tell you how you can make sure that the personal development advice you learn stick to you forever.

Incorrect understanding of personal development advice

The main reason that prevents people from making permanent changes to their lives using the personal development advice they learn is the incorrect understanding of the human mind.

We learn things by a process that is called negative feedback. When a baby tries to hold an object and it falls on the ground the baby learns that it has done something wrong (negative feedback) and so it adjusts its grip during the next attempt. (See Challenge your failure)

The baby keeps trying and failing until it manages to hold the object correctly.

Now back to you, any change in behavior can't happen right after you read an article but instead you have to keep trying and failing until you learn how to integrate the advice into your system correctly.

If you forget what you have learned then read the advice again and try to apply them again and again until you manage to succeed.

How many days are needed before an action turns into a habit?

One of the common rumors that is widely spread on the internet is the 21 rule which states that a person needs to stick to a certain action for 21 days before it becomes a habit.
