How to make studying more interesting

From Lack of enthusiasm to extreme excitement

I still remember the days where i used to study a programming language called Basic in college. That programming language was so primitive that it displayed the output of it's programs in the form of text on a black screen.

It was pretty much like creating a program that works on Ms-dos and that is text based. Using that language we used to create simple programs that added two numbers, multiplied them or made some calculations.

Sounds really boring right?
yes it was very boring for some people.
The only reason i found Basic tolerable is that i loved computers.

One year later i came to know about visual basic. A programming language that can allow me to create visual programs that have buttons and graphical interfaces.

I was so excited that i spent days in front of the computer screen creating different programs that does various things. I remember i even created a small chatting client.

My friends used to call me to hang out with them but i refused. I was just too happy programming that i didn't want to leave my home.

Now here is the one million dollar question.
why programming, something that was barely interesting for me before, became extremely exciting all of a sudden?

How to make studying more interesting

In one of my previous articles about dealing with Boredom i explained how i had a similar situation with accounting.

The thing you need to know here is that when the subject you are studying seem like it can help you reach one of your important goals the subject suddenly becomes interesting.

Let's suppose that you were depressed then realized you will take a psychology course. What do you think will happen?

In such a case if you believed that this course will help you deal with your depression then you will find it very interesting. In short when the things you are studying can be connected to your most important goals those things become very interesting.

How to connect your studies to your goals?

I know this is not easy but it's doable. Here are the steps:

1) Find what you want in life early on: When you know exactly what you want in life you will be able to quickly figure out which subjects are going to be useful for you. In such a case those subjects will become very interesting. See how to figure out what you want in life
2) Talk to people about the importance of those subjects: Once you manage to understand how a certain subject can help you in your future life that subject will seem much more interesting. You just need to do some effort to understand how can this subject fit in your future career
3) Speak to successful people: Ask successful people about the subjects that helped them in life and when you realize that you are currently studying some of them you will find them more interesting.

For example i loved all the subjects related to to computers and internet. When i graduated i started this website which turned out to be a business that made me rich. Can you now see computer related subjects in a different light?

I have managed to become a self made millionaire at the age of 28. This didn't happen by chance because i already wrote that goal down five years before i accomplished it. Becoming rich is not about luck, starting big or being intelligent but its all about having certain beliefs about money and life.
