This is why you never get motivated

Why the motivation mechanism sometimes fail

Ever wondered what motivation really is?
I am sure you know that it's a force that can help you get your important goals done but ever wondered why do you sometimes never get motivated even though you have important goals?

I am pretty sure you had an important exam one day but never felt like studying. Can you remember the last time you had to do something really important that would benefit you but never felt like doing it?

So what's going on here? And why does the motivation mechanism sometimes fail? The answer is very simple. There is a conflict between two different parts of your mind that is not fully resolved.

Imagine you had an argument with one of your friends and both of you never agreed on anything. Will you both work towards the same common goal? Of course no, unless you resolve the conflict and agree on a common goal you will never reach anything.

This is why you never get motivated

But how come can there be disagreement inside your mind on a goal that should make your life better?
Simply there can be a disagreement between your conscious and unconscious mind.

During your early years your subconscious mind develops certain important unconscious goals. Because of the nature of those goals they might not be fully visible to your conscious mind. Here is a simple example that would make this concept clear.

If you were raised in an overprotective family then your unconscious mind might think that the world is unsafe and so forces you to become anxious and reserved. Now when you try to deliver an important presentation in front of your co-workers years later most probably you will get terrified.

As you can see there is a clear conflict between your conscious and unconscious mind in such a case. While your conscious mind wants you to get promoted your unconscious mind wants you to avoid possible humiliation.

Understand your unconscious goals

Each person has many unconscious goals that he might not be fully aware of. If you are serious about motivating yourself then you should dig deep in your mind and bring those goals to surface. Once you do so you will be able to resolve all of those conflicts and you won't find a problem in getting motivated.

The other good thing that will happen is that you will understand your behavior perfectly. After all most of our behavior and habits stem from the unconscious mind desire to achieve certain goals.

Next time you find yourself unmotivated know that there is a conflict of interest taking place inside your own mind.
