How to live in the present moment

conscious living has became a hot topic to the extent that it became hard to talk about happiness without mentioning anything about it.

Conscious living is based upon the fact that people feel sad because they are either concerned about their past or worried about their future. By learning how to live in the present moment people can become really happy.

This would have been a great piece of info if one big problem that most people fail to avoid wasn't there, when people talk about conscious living they give advice such as "Just stop thinking about the past and worrying about the future" as if each person has a push button that he can use to silence his thoughts.

The truth is that the silencing of thoughts concept goes against the way the human mind was designed and so it never helps people to live in the present moment. Even if people managed to do that few minutes later they will find themselves thinking about their problems once again.

How the human mind works

Just like you feel Hungary when your body is in need of food you will experience different emotions when your body has different emotional needs. If for example you had no close friends you will experience loneliness which is just a message your mind is using to motivate you to make friends.

Now lots of people who give advice about living in the present moment ask people to ignore these signals and focus on the present. The problem with such approach is that it works against the mind because when the message is ignored the mind is going to send a stronger message in order for it to be noticed.

try to not eat anything when you feel hungry and you will discover that you became even more hungry. The same goes for your emotions, if you want to live in the present moment then you can't just do that by ignoring your current signals because they will become stronger.

How to really live in the present??

The only way to live in the present is to create plans that reassures your mind about the future so that it finds no need to bother you with it every now and then. In addition you must find ways to feel good about your past.

But How can someone feel good about an event that has already passed? Just consider this example, if you failed to succeed once at doing something then this event would be a bad memory but if you managed to try again and succeed then the bad memory will turn into a good memory that reminds you of how persistent you were.

If you want to live in the present moment then change your past, reassure yourself about your future and you won't find a reminder every now and then distracting you from the present moment.
