How bad is stress

Stress is a horrible emotion, when you experience it for a short period of time you will feel tired, unhappy and irritated.

Stress also destroys the happiness hormone, ruins the mood and can cause depression if it lasted for prolonged periods.

Because stress is that dangerous you must do your best to reduce the amount of stress you get subjected to each day. There are so many wrong practices that we do each day that force us to experience a lot of stress.

By learning how to avoid those wrong practices you will be able to reduce the amount of stress you get subjected to and so live a happier life.

How Stress happens

If you want to avoid stress then you must understand how it happens. In my book, The ultimate guide to getting over depression i said that stress happens when your mind becomes busy thinking of something or working on something then something else interrupts.

In other words our conscious mind can't multitask like our unconscious mind. While the unconscious mind can control more than one process in the same time (for example breathing, heart rate, driving...etc) the conscious mind can only focus on one thing at a time.

Now when the conscious mind becomes too busy thinking about something it gets stressed if anything else popps up. Here is a simple example: if you were too busy working and in the same time you were thinking about your back pain then you will get stressed.

Why you should always start with the small tasks

So what does starting with the small tasks has to do with stress reduction?
Lets suppose you had 5 important tasks to complete and that one of them was long. Now if you started with the long one your mind might worry a lot about the remaining four and since your conscious mind can only focus on one thing at a time you will get really stressed.

Now if you started with the short task your mind won't have enough time to worry about the other ones because that task will be finished quickly. We start to worry about other tasks when one of the tasks we are working on takes too long (or when we run out of time).

So starting with the smaller task will always reduce the amount of stress you get subjected to.
