Am i good looking?

Do you think you don't look good?
Are you not sure whether you look acceptable or not?
Are you too focused on your looks?

In all cases, i have good news for you! In one famous experiment few women were asked to answer questions that described how they looked.

The person who was asking the questions was giving his back to those women and so he never knew how they really looked like. That person then drew pictures of each of these women based on their descriptions.

After that each woman was introduced to a new comer who was then asked to describe how each woman looked according to his own point of view. The painter drew new pictures of the women based on the description of that new comer.

How do i really look like to others

Just as you saw in the video so many people look way better than they think. Because of the following perception errors you might actually think you look ugly even if you were handsome:

  • 1) Focusing on one feature: As you saw in the video those who didn't like one of their features were too focused on it in such a way that they believed it was the most prominent feature in their face (see also Do you see yourself correctly?)
  • 2) Ignoring good looking features: If you believe you are not handsome then your mind will discard any proofs that show otherwise. In other words your mind will ignore your good looking features as if they didn't exist. (see also How to feel good about your looks)
  • 3) Give low weight to compliments: If you believe you don't look good then your mind will certainly ignore all the good compliments you got and instead it will focus on the bad ones see (How to deal with negative feedback about your looks)
  • 4) False linking: Those who don't like their looks usually assume that the rejections they got are linked to their looks. Even the slightest actions that couldn't be understood such as an unfriendly handshake can be blamed on looks (see Does rejection mean you are ugly)

What to do

First of all understand that you are more beautiful than you think. Next learn how to point out your good looking features. Try to recall the picture of your face with your good looking features included. You will be amazed when you discover that you look way better than you thought.

People who don't understand how others perceive physical attraction usually develop the imagined ugliness disorder.
