Why do people behave the way they do

Why do some people behave in a weird way?
Why do some people keep doing certain things over and over?
why do people behave the way they do?

One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to understand others is looking at their behaviour out of context of their psychological makeup.

The problem with that approach is that it results in a superficial judgment of others based on one situation.

The other problem with that approach is that it doesn't take into consideration that two people could be doing the same exact behaviour for completely different reasons and the only way to differentiate between them is to examine the behaviour in the context of their personalities. (see Understanding someone's behaviour)

If you want to know why do people behave the way they do then read this post.

Why did Mary behave that way?

We use the term showy to label people who like to talk about themselves but in fact all people are showy in a way or another!

Mary, a beautiful woman at her mid thirties likes only to drive 4 by 4 cars. For a superficial bystander who won't take her personality into consideration this might seem like an odd behaviour but when knowing that Mary was taught at an early age that girls are weak compared to men things become clear.

Mary behaved that way because she wanted to show off her power! (see Tomboy psychology

Each and every person develops an idea about how people see him during his childhood and as result he either works hard to maintain this image if he liked it or he either strives to change that image if it didn't appeal to him.

When it came to beauty Mary never showed off because she was sure that people think that she is pretty but when it came to strength and power she always tried to show others that she is powerful because she believed that they think that she is weak.

In the Solid Self confidence program i said that people behave the way they do because they are either trying to maintain a certain identity that they have acquired or either trying to change an identity that they dont like.

Why did Sam behave that way

Sam hates suites. He left his first job after few month because he were asked to wear a suit!

Again for an uninformed bystander Sam seems likes a weirdo but when you get to know that Sam was perceived as the Geek between his class mates things make a lot of sense.

Sam developed an identity that he doesn't like and believed that people see him this way. As a result he started to break away from any kind of formalities such as being on time, wearing suits, studying well or even reading.

All of these actions unconsciously reminded Sam of the identity that he dislikes and that's why he tried to avoid them. (see Psychological identity problems)

People behave the way they do without understanding the reason behind it. Sam never knew the reason behind his behaviour though he used to think a lot about it.

The subconscious mind directs people's actions and if you want to understand why do people behave the way they do then you must get a clear understanding of their past for it holds the clues you are looking for.
